Theoretical analysis predicts tension-contraction behavior during snarl formation in twisted filaments, highlighting mechanical principles governing torque-stretch yarns.
A theoretical analysis of the mechanics of formation of a snarl in a twisted filament is given and leads to prediction of the tension-contraction relation. This is then applied to multifilament yarns analogous to torque-stretch yarns. The behaviour of real yarns is discussed, and results are compared with the predictions.
