Mean radiative lifetimes for the Fe I levels z 5 D , z 5 F , z 3 P , z 5 G , e 5 D , e 5 G , and e 5 H have been determined from a dye laser excited atomic beam using the delayed coincidence technique. A two step excitation had to be applied for the higher levels. The results are in a very good agreement with other direct lifetime measurements and in a good agreement with lifetime values computed from transition probabilities measured with electrical arcs.
