SUMMARY A method for estimating the relative concentrations of particles by electron microscopy is described. The method involves the determination of the area of the field of view in the microscope binoculars, relative to a standard area, and is independent of grid type, magnification, operator or microscope. Particle counts using this method are in close agreement with counts made from electron micrographs. The method is simple, rapid and reproducible, and, for low numbers of particles, more accurate than conventional methods.
