Summary A technique for the study of treading on pasture was tested and found to be satisfactory. A ryegrass/clover pasture on Manawatu silt loam of good structure, and mature Romney sheep, were used during the winter and spring 1956. Treading damaged the pasture; most of the effect followed the first treading but repeated tieadings altered the botanical composition, white clover being susceptible. Increased treading had increased influence on plant and soil.
