The maximal storage capacity for hierarchically correlated patterns is calculated without using an explicit learning rule. If the lowest-level branching ratio tends to infinity strong correlations increase the storage capacity, otherwise they decrease it significantly. There is probably no enlargement of the typical basins of attraction due to the hierarchical organisation. The author considers both two-level hierarchies and those with infinitely many levels.
