Case series demonstrates improved pupil progress ratings across secondary school intervention programmes, highlighting the promise of targeted needs assessment and matching models.
RefocusED is a structured secondary school intervention system combining a 30 question area of need assessment, programme matching, programme specific staff training, session materials, repeated monitoring and classroom handover. This working paper describes the intervention model and reports early progress patterns across 30 anonymised case studies spanning six matched programmes. Mean pupil-level ratings increased from 2.53 at the start to 4.08 at Session 5; 28 pupils improved, one was unchanged and one had a lower final mean. All six programme groups recorded positive mean change. The findings provide encouraging early implementation evidence for the needs assessment and programme matching model and identify priorities for prospective evaluation.
