Summary Out of 2000 human sera tested, 10 were shown to agglutinate O Rh + red cells sensitized with incomplete anti‐D antibodies. The reaction was apparently analogous to the reaction obtained with Coombs serum. The agglutinating factor is thermostable and it can be absorbed by sensitized cells. The serum also loses its agglutinating ability after neutralization with incomplete antibodies recovered at 56° C. from sensitized cells. On the basis of these and other experiments the authors express the opinion that the agglutinating factor is an antibody directed against immune globulin denatured by serological reaction. Experiments were performed on the practical applications of human antiglobulin sera. Antiglobulin serum was mixed in equal proportions with incomplete anti‐Rh serum (anti‐D, ‐c, ‐C, ‐e). The mixed serum agglutinated red cells suspended in saline and has all the properties of a serum with complete antibodies. It is a very simple method for Rh determination. The human antiglobulin sera may also be used in the Coombs test; washing of sensitized cells can then be omitted.
