A survey of calculations of the properties of H 3 and H 3 + with particular emphasis on those in which the author has been involved is given. Correlations with hot‐atom experiments and spectroscopic observations are discussed. A preview of new work on the predissociation of quasistable upper‐sheet Jahn‐Teller states of H 3 is presented.
