A diamond monopole (DM) antenna is proposed for ultra‐wideband (UWB) communication. The impedance bandwidth is improved by cutting the two opposite vertexes of a square. The design parameters are analyzed and optimized to obtain a good performance. Comparison between the proposed DM and a conventional circular disk monopole (CDM) is also given. The proposed UWB antenna has advantages over a CDM in (for example) small size and omnidirectivity.
