The synthesis and thermal behaviour of a cis,cis ‐(3,5‐dihydroxycyclohexyl) 3,4,5‐tris(alkoxy)‐benzoate, functionalized by one terminal C‐C double bond is described. Its mesophase of the hexagonal columnar type is formed by a “supramolecular” unit, consisting of six single molecules aggregated via hydrogen bonding. Subsequently, a liquid‐crystalline side‐chain polymer with a siloxane backbone was synthesized. Its mesophase behaviour, investigated by means of differential scanning calorimetry (DSC) measurements and polarizing microscopy, is discussed.
