Pre-existing AF associated with higher arterial thromboembolism risk in ICU patients; leaves open mortality impact and need for targeted trials.
Does pre-existing atrial fibrillation increase the risk of arterial thromboembolism and death in intensive care unit patients?
In ICU patients, pre-existing atrial fibrillation is associated with a modestly increased risk of arterial thromboembolism but no overall association with mortality, except in younger patients (<55 years) and those requiring mechanical ventilation.
