An ArF laser (193 nm) is used to induce the multiphoton dissociation of CH 3 Br. Electronically excited CH fragments (A 2 Δ and B 2 Σ − ) are monitored to determine the excited state branching ratio. Possible photodissociation mechanisms are discussed.
