Configuration interaction wavefunctions are used to calculate probabilities of transitions between all states in O V of the form 1s 2 nln'l', n=2, n'=2, 3. All E1 probabilities are displayed together with the principal E2 results. Lifetimes of these state are evaluated and compared with experiment. It was found that M1 or M2 transitions do not significantly affect the lifetimes. Except for the 2s3p 3 P 0 and 2p3d 3 F 0 multiplets, different levels within any multiplet were found to have the same lifetimes. For the exceptions, the principal cause of lifetime differences within a multiplet was found to be the close proximity of a single level of a different multiplet with the same J value. A further contributory factor was the restriction on possible transitions from levels with high J values, e.g. 3 F 4 0 , due to forbidden triangular conditions.
