Cross sections for attachment of thermal and near-thermal energy electrons to nine aromatic hydrocarbons are reported. The attachment cross sections peak sharply at zero energy and vary inversely with the electron velocity at thermal energies. The thermal attachment cross sections are discussed in relation to the energy of the first excited π-singlet state and the electron affinity.
