Two variants for the antigen Thy 1.2 were characterized. These variants had <0.001 the amount of Thy 1.2 antigen present on parental cells. Cell fusion studies indicated that absence of Thy 1.2 antigen was recessive in these variants and that the Thy 1.2 antigen was expressed when the 2 variants were fused to each other. Possible explanations for the variants were discussed in terms of these results.
