The acoustic emission generated during the forward and reverse martensitic transformations of a Cu-Zn-Al alloy has been studied using the ring-down counting technique. A method is proposed to determine from ring-down counting data, the amplitude distribution of the signals generated during the transformation. The results obtained are compared with those given in the literature.
