Erythema infectiosum is described in practically all of the newer textbooks on pediatrics, but no clinical report of the occurrence of the disease in this country has been published previously. Most of the men who saw the cases reported in the present series felt that the disease was new in this locality, but several epidemics have been recognized elsewhere in recent years. Zahorsky 1 states that he saw a number of cases about 1914, and nine more cases during a localized epidemic in St. Louis in 1924. Shaw 2 quotes a personal communication from Dr. Brauer of Hamburg, N. Y., giving an account of thirty-seven cases which occurred in that town in the spring of 1919. The description of these cases leaves no doubt that they are the same condition reported in the German literature and in the present series. The disease was accurately described as long ago as 1886
