Implication

Both HIIT and MVCT improve fitness in obese young women; reinforces both as viable while favoring HIIT for enjoyment.

Structured PICO

Does high-intensity interval training improve cardiometabolic health and exercise enjoyment compared to moderate-to-vigorous continuous training in obese young women?

P
Population
31 obese females, age range 18-30
I
Intervention
5-week high-intensity interval training (HIIT) program (20 min of repeated 8 s cycling interspersed with 12 s rest intervals, 4 days a week)
C
Comparator
5-week moderate-to-vigorous intensity continuous training (MVCT) program (cycled continuously for 40 min at 60-80% of peak oxygen consumption, 4 days a week)
O
Outcome
Cardiometabolic health outcomes (peak oxygen consumption, body composition estimated by bioimpedance analysis, blood lipids, and serum sexual hormones) and enjoyment of exercise (Physical Activity Enjoyment Scale scores)surrogate

Both HIIT and MVCT are effective in improving cardiorespiratory fitness in obese young women, but HIIT is a more enjoyable and time-efficient strategy.
