In this study the population dynamics of Culex pipiens quinquefasciatus were followed throughout each season over the course of a year. Of significance was the establishment of mean low temperature as the best correlating weather factor to egg production and the determination of the developmental time throughout the year under field conditions. Natural mortality of an artificially created tank population was also significant; 55% was the lowest mortality rate experienced; this was 10 to 25% greater than that recorded for a cohort population. Duration of egg-to-emergence time throughout the year was established; the shortest mean time for any cohort was 10.8 days (September) and the maximum was 46.8 days (January). A seasonal shift in sex ratio was observed; an increase in the female to male ratio begins in November and persists until summer.
