The production of O2+ by a second-order ion—molecule reaction in CO2 has been studied in a conventional mass spectrometer. Experiments are described designed to determine whether the O2+ arises from the reactions O++CO2→O2++CO or CO2+(2Σg+)+CO2→O2++2CO.
