A perturbation theory is developed to allow for long-range interactions in the Kapur-Peierls resonance scattering theory. Applied to the electron/atomic hydrogen system, it is found that the position and width of the narrow 9.61 eV 1 S level are changed by only a few per cent, the position of the level being depressed.
