Narrative review summarizes metabolic alterations and biological functions of cutaneous lipids in humans, highlighting novel physiological roles.
Metabolic processes and other types of alterations of the lipids of human skin are summarized and discussed. Known functions of skin lipids are discussed, and in the light of new data presented in the papers of this series, new functions are speculated upon.
