In a 6-month period, over 200 patients with acute diarrhea were seen. All patients were asked to submit a fresh stool specimen, which was evaluated on wet mount exam for the presence of fecal leukocytes.Of the 200 specimens evaluated, 113 showed some degree of fecal leukocytosis.
