103 patients with 104 consecutive intertrochanteric fractures (mean age 81, female:male ratio 2.8:1). Excluded: pathological fractures, prior surgery of the proximal femur, and undislocated 2-part intertrochanteric fractures.

Medoff sliding plate (MSP) with dynamic compression allowed only along the femoral shaft.

Technical failures (defined as lag screw penetration, breakage or loosening of the plate, or non-union of the fracture) at 1 year.safety
