A novel low profile metal plate monopole antenna with L-shape silts for mobile handsets operating DTV (470–740 MHz) band is proposed. The antenna can be easily constructed by folding the planar patch with the silt and occupies a small volume of 56× 23 × 10mm. The measured return losses for operating frequencies over the DTV band are better than −10 dB. The proposed antenna shows omni-directional or monopole-like radiation patterns and has good antenna gain over the frequencies of interest. The antenna can be applied to DTV application.
