The purpose of the investigation was to determine if the chloride ion activity electrode could be used to detect abnormal milk. Twenty samples of farm bulk tank milk were analyzed for chloride content by the Orion ion activity electrode, for leukocytes by the Coulter counter and for bacteria by the standard plate count. Results showed a correlation coefficient of 0.30 between leukocyte count and chloride content. When two out-of-llne samples were excluded the correlation coefficient was 0.89.
