Case histories of 184 patients with supraglottic carcinomas treated by megavoltage radiotherapy were reviewed. Of the entire group consisting of 68% T3, and T4 lesions and 51% nodal metastases, a determinate three-year NED rate after radiation therapy was 38%. For T1, T2, T3, and T4 lesions, the determinate three-year NED rates were 89, 66, 21 and 23%, respectively. Patients without cervical nodes did considerably better than those with nodes (63% vs. 17%). Women appeared to respond to irradiation better than men, both with lesions in the early stages and without nodes (92% vs. 68%). The treatment policy of this disease is presented.
