Why the study?
Epicardial connections exist within pulmonary vein antrum isolation lines in approximately 10% of AF patients and may contribute to incomplete isolation and recurrence.
Epicardial connections within pulmonary vein antrum isolation lines can play a role in the initiation and maintenance of atrial tachycardia.
ECs inside PVAI lines may sustain AT; case report leaves open whether targeted EC mapping improves ablation outcomes.
Complete pulmonary vein antrum isolation (PVAI) is essential to prevent the initiation and recurrence of atrial fibrillation (AF).1 However, recent reports indicated that epicardial connections (ECs) exist within PVAI lines in approximately 10% of patients with AF.2–4 These ECs may contribute to incomplete PVAI and AF recurrence.2,3,5–8 Herein, we report a case in which ECs inside PVAI lines contributed to initiating and maintaining atrial tachycardia (AT).
