A second-harmonic wave generated by a 10-MHz compressional wave in an aluminium single crystal is found to increase in amplitude when a small static stress is applied to the crystal. The second-harmonic amplitude in the stressed crystal shows a recovery with time which is found to be thermally activated. An activation energy of 1.1 eV is measured.
