It is suggested that the inequality mB>3/2mM is a rigorous result in quantum chromodynamics. The analog for a (q₁qN) baryon in SU(N) is mB>(1/2N)mM. The inequality is proved for weak coupling and a version of the strong-coupling expansion where a separation H_q₁q₂q₃=H₁₂+H₂₃+H₃₁ of the problem can be achieved. Implications for quantum chromodynamics and composite models are briefly discussed.
