This article details the results of a small qualitative research study which was conducted to explore the experiences of nurse prescribing by a group of district nurses working within one of the UK pilot sites. Semi-structured interviews were undertaken with seven (n=7) district nurses, who had a range of prescribing experience. The focus of the study was to evaluate changes in their roles as a result of being able to prescribe. Although the participants in the study identified many positive aspects of nurse prescribing in relation to their roles as district nurses, evidence presented indicates an overwhelming inconsistency among the participants, in terms of how each actually prescribed.
