Intervention

Polymerase chain reaction-single stranded conformational polymorphisms (PCR-SSCP) and long-PCR analysis of the renin gene.

Comparator

Normal subjects.

Outcome

Alterations in exon 1 and gross changes in the region covering 500 bp upstream of exon 1, exon 1, and intron A of the renin gene.surrogate

PCR-SSCP and long-PCR analysis did not detect gross structural alterations in the studied regions of the renin gene in patients with aldosterone-producing adenomas.

Limitations

Does not exclude small alterations in the long-PCR amplified area.
