This paper is concerned with electrical energy transmission by means of inductive coupling between two spiral coils with amorphous magnetic fibers. This method will be of use for transcutaneous energy transmission for an implantable artificial heart actuated electrically. As a result of an analysis of the operation of the transmitting coils, optimum operating condition for efficient energy transmission was found. The calculated result indicates that the transmitting coils are able to transmit electric power with about 95% of efficiency at the operating frequency of 100∼200 kHz. The average temperature rise of the coils of 2 or 3°C was observed while 20 W was transmitted. We also performed a test of energy transmission to a vibrating electromagnetic pump as an artificial heart.
