An anionic cadmium tris-dicyanamide compound (Et4N)[Cd(N(CN)2)3]·3/4H2O 1 has been synthesized and characterized by elemental analysis, IR spectroscopy, thermogravimetric analysis, X-ray powder diffraction, and X-ray crystallography. The anions form extended sheets with retention of (4,4) connectivity in the absence of p···p interactions within the cation layers, and with octahedral geometry about individual CdII ions.
