One hundred and five strains of mycobacteria isolated from house-dust are identified with the aid of biochemical tests. It is found that more than half the strains belong to a group which is frequently implicated in tuberculosis-like disease in man. These findings give more credence to the suggestion that our environment may be the source of disease-associated strains of atypical mycobacteria.
