PULSED nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) instru-mentation was used to develop a technique to measure moisture in wheat. Repeatability and stability of the commercial instrument were sufficiently high to demonstrate that NMR techniques are more sensitive to moisture than currently used dielectric techniques. The FID ratio was linearly correlated (R = 0.99) to wheat oven moisture in the 8 to 15% MC range. The NMR response was independent of the wheat mass, bulk density, and cheat content. Variation in NMR reading was determined for five varieties of wheat grown at three locations in two years.
