SnO 2 nanobelts have been fabricated by a simple thermal evaporation using a halide source as starting material. The size and morphology of the SnO 2 nanobelts were measured by scanning electron microscopy and transmission electron microscopy. The products consist of a large quantity of beltlike nanostructures with typical lengths in range of several tens to several hundreds of micrometres and the typical width of SnO 2 nanobelts is in the range of 20–100 nm. X-ray diffraction pattern and Raman spectrum from the sample show that the as-synthesized nanobelts are rutile type structure.
