Synthesis and biological investigation (pressure response in the nephrectomized rat) of two dozen analogues of angiotensin (functional derivatives, analogues with changes in the amino‐acid sequence, peptide chain homologues) have not revealed any compounds with enhanced, prolonged, or antagonistic actions. Minor changes in the molecule usually result in a more or less pronounced decrease or loss of activity. Certain amino‐acid residues seem to be more responsible for activity than others. These and other results (in the field of bradykinin) are taken as evidence against the postulation of an abnormally low biological specificity of peptides as compared with other classes of biologically active compounds.
