A theoretical model was developed for analysing the pyroelectric current response derived from cylindrical shaped domains irradiated by a focussed laser beam. The theoretically predicted responses were compared with experimental data obtained for nearly cylindrical domains in PbTiO3 single crystals using a laser beam focussed to give a 40 μm heat source. The theoretical analysis was extended to establish the relation between shape of pyroelectric pattern and the size of cylindrical domain.
