Conceptual framework uncovers synthetic excess and weakened provenance in platformized AI adult media, highlighting emerging challenges for digital labor, governance, and authenticity.
The rapid spread of ‘slop’ as a cultural keyword reflects growing concern about automated overproduction in digital media. This article introduces porn slop as a conceptual lens for examining synthetic excess, platform-facing circulation, and weakened provenance within artificial intelligence (AI)-mediated adult media. Rather than treating porn slop as equivalent to all AI pornography or as a demonstrated condition of dominant porn consumption, the article frames it as an emerging and uneven formation. Drawing on recent developments in generative pornography, deepfake ecosystems, subscription-based automation, and synthetic performers, the article situates porn slop within debates on platformization, algorithmic amplification, and digital culture. A typology distinguishes public-facing synthetic excess from private or semi-private AI sexual automation. The article concludes by outlining implications for porn studies, platform studies, and future research on labour, desire, governance, and authenticity.
