Ninety individuals completed the Shipley Institute of Living Scale and the Revised Questionnaire of Absolutistic Thinking (R-QAT). Statistical analyses failed to demonstrate any relationship between intelligence and perfectionist thinking, dysfunctional thinking overall, or low frustration tolerance. A slight, but significant relationship was observed between intelligence and absolutistic thinking. These results discount other theories that dysfunctional thinking is a product of low intellectual ability. Results suggest additionally that the R-QAT is an appropriate and sensitive instrument appropriate for clients of varying intellectual levels.
