T history of adenoid cystic carcinoma have been clearly described in several excellent reviews during the past 20 years. Despite these publications, this group of neoplasms continues to be frequently misdiagnosed and inadequately treated by some physicians. Adenoid cystic carcinoma is still often mistaken for a benign tumor. Many surgeons fail to appreciate the lethal nature of this tumor and thus lose the initial opportunity for a curative procedure. Therefore, a total of 38 cases of adenoid cystic carcinoma, available to us at the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania, Philadelphia, Pa., was reviewed in regard to pathological and clinical features, long term follow-up, and the results of various modes of therapy.
