Why the study?
Does fluid removal during incident haemodialysis improve BNP levels, and does the post-correction BNP predict mortality?
Population
46 incident haemodialysis patients surviving at least 6 months after HD treatment onset.
Comparison
Haemodialysis treatment and fluid removal vs Baseline (at haemodialysis start)
Design
Cohort
Follow-up
at least 6 months (second quarter of HD treatment)

Post-correction BNP may refine mortality risk stratification in incident HD; leaves open whether BNP-guided care improves survival.
Does fluid removal during incident haemodialysis improve BNP levels, and does the post-correction BNP predict mortality?
In incident hemodialysis patients, BNP levels decrease with fluid removal, and the post-correction BNP level (at the second quarter of treatment) is a better independent predictor of mortality than baseline BNP.
