Critical temperatures, Tc, at which the field emission heating or cooling effect is zero are computed for field emission current densities between 104 and 108 amps cm−2. The magnitudes of the heating and cooling effects at (TC± 50°) are also given. An example shows that these effects cannot normally be ignored when estimating the temperature of a strongly field emitting surface.
