A simple theoretical treatment is given of the effect of a limiting oxygen supply on the growth of bacteria. Results are given for the batch culture of Aerobacter cloacae. Using different levels of aeration, the growth rate was measured when growth was restricted by oxygen supply. The bacterial concentration at which restriction occurred was also determined.
