Why the study?
Does increasing the target effect-site concentration of remifentanil from 4 ng/ml to 5 or 6 ng/ml improve hemodynamic stability during propofol induction in normotensive and hypertensive patients?
Does increasing the target effect-site concentration of remifentanil from 4 ng/ml to 5 or 6 ng/ml improve hemodynamic stability during propofol induction in normotensive and hypertensive patients?
A lower target effect-site concentration of remifentanil (4 ng/ml) is adequate and safer for maintaining hemodynamic stability during propofol induction in hypertensive patients compared to higher doses (5 or 6 ng/ml).
4 ng/ml remifentanil target avoids excessive hypotension in hypertensives; supports lower dosing over 5-6 ng/ml during propofol induction.
Background: This study compared the hemodynamic effects of target-controlled infusion (TCI) of remifentanil (4, 5, or 6 ng/ml) during propofol induction in normotensive and hypertensive patients. It was also examined whether increasing the remifentanil concentrations might reduce propofol consumption at the loss of consciousness (LOC).
