On the basis of investigations of different coloration centres in pure and doped YAG crystals, most of them are already published, the applicability is proved of the generalized conception of a bound polaron to all hitherto known coloration centres occurring after X‐ray irradiation. It is shown that the optical properties described can be explained by means of the model of a linear harmonic oscillator.
