Adrenal inflammation, often with severe hemorrhagic necrosis, has been commonly observed at autopsy, frequently in association with coexistent cytomegalovirus infection of the gland. Similarly, adrenal insufficiency has been reported in patients with AIDS (5).In reviewing the autopsy reports of 32 patients with AIDS who died at St. Vincent's Hospital in the years 1981 to 1985, I found 15 cases with reported adrenal disease.
