Remote sensing survey demonstrates automated drone mapping for wild Magallana gigas populations, highlighting scalable methods for marine ecological monitoring.
This data-set was collected in the context of the Oyster-Watch Project. On of the main objectives of this project was to develop a rapid, accurate, and repeatable methodology for monitoring the distribution of naturalized populations of Magallana gigas using UAV imagery and artificial intelligence. This included the acquisition of high-resolution spatial data, the training of automated detection algorithms, and the development of tools to assess temporal changes in oyster distribution and abundance, which encompases the present dataset. A total of 16 UAV surveys were conducted across several sites in the northern and central Galician rías
