Biogeographical analysis reveals diverse distribution patterns of Neuroptera families across Indian states and union territories, highlighting Myrmeleontidae as the most widespread taxon.
Neuroptera is a holometabolous insect order in the superorder Neuropterida, found across the planet except in Antarctica and polar regions. It includes 5,813 described species worldwide, of which about 330 species under 121 genera and 11 families have been reported from India. A consolidated account of the distribution of Neuropteran families across the states and union territories of India is presented. The analysis indicates that Myrmeleontidae is the most widely distributed family, followed by Chrysopidae and Hemerobiidae, whereas the remaining families show relatively limited geographic occurrence.
